Stereo Question

Hi all;

I have another question regarding my new 2572 QCW  that I am hoping someone can help me out with...

My boat is equipped with an 800 watt Kicker amp and sub as well as wetsound speakers and a Sony DSX-S310BTX head unit.  The Kicker amp has no equalization adjustments on it so all sound adjustments are done therough the Sony head. It took me a while to get all the settings where I like them, not to mention dealing with all those impossible silly little buttons on the Sony head unit. Anyway, my problem is when you shut the main power switch  off on the dash, it completely kills the radio which means all settings have to be redone!!  Yes, I know I can just leave that switch on but it kinda defeats the purpose on ensuring all power to other dash items which do not require a tiny bit of electricity for memory get shut down.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than rewiring direct to the battery to help alleviate this??

Thanks!

Dan

Or jump memory wire to hot side of master switch?

That is a good idea .

If the battery lasted a season that would be great ,

If you try it ,keep us ( at least me ) posted .

I already have my finger on the order button .

I just need to check my radio .

me too, me too.. let me know how it works.... great idea.

OK so I just did a little googling...It looks like the memory function of a radio uses aproximately .007 amps per hour or 7 milliamps.  An A23 battery has 55 MAH of power so if my calculations are correct, the battery would only last 7.8 hours...??? I guess that would mean a standard 100 amp hour battery would last just under 75 days...??  I hope someone who knows a little more about electricity will chime in because electricity is not my bag whatsoever!

Thanks!

Dan

If my above formula is correct, this battery should last 71 days. http://www.amazon.com/ML12-12-DEEP-CYCLE-RECHARGEABLE-BATTERY-Battery/dp/B00K8I758O/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1438711249&sr=1-2&keywords=motorcycle+battery

Now if you simply attach a battery tender quick disconnect and charge it occassionally it would last a few years I would think... This would eliminate having to reroute and run wires all the way back to the main batteries and then still dealing with the main battery switch...

Any better ideas??

If you ran the yellow memory wire from your head unit to the Hot side of the Master On/Off switch located on your dash it would remain Hot (and keep your settings) until you turned off the (red) Perko switch behind the drivers seat.

IMO the master off switch on the dash is for convenience. It's a quick way that you can quickly turn all your accessories off . The red Perko switch is more of a deep storage all off Switch.

Thanks and understood, the only problem is my boat has two dash helms, one on the port side where the radio is and one on the starboard side where the master on/off switch is. They are not connected whatsoever. Running a wire between the two would require pulling the boat out of the water and major surgery. Was looking for a quick fix for this season...

Thanks!

9 volt battery/adapter? Not sure the draw on the memory, but I can't imagine it being much?

Do it correctly or don't bother.

Dan,

If your master on/off switch and your accessory switch that powers up the radio are both on the starboard side helm, hopefully you have all the wires you need over there. If so, my fix for this should work for you as well. See my write-up in my gallery. It's very simple.

In the starboard helm, you would need to find the yellow wire attached between the accessory switch breaker and the accessory switch. On ours, it is actually then looped around, real close to the master on/off switch such that there was plenty of length to move it to the new location to solve your problem.

Gee Thanks for the great info... Big help...and what would be correctly in your opinion. Obviously the way Bennington does it is not correct... or maybe they should be installing non-volatile memory radios...ya think?? Nothing like having to re tune your radio from scratch every time you use it!!

This is great info! Thank you so much for your considerate reply! I am pretty sure this will work as my dash is as you described.

Thanks again!

You are very welcome! Once you confirm that is does work (or not), please post back for confirmation as there have been many questions and requests for this, with you being the first with a dual-helm windscreen model.

They wire it that way to not have a dead battery from a boat that sits for a long period of time. I wasn't trying to be a smartass and finding the wires and doing it correctly is much easier than hooking up a battery that isn't meant to be there. Chill. Our 07' was the same way and I just moved the memory wire.

I was going to post a question about this same radio but will tag onto this discussion. My radio won't get one single radio station, not a one. I'm currently using Bluetooth but that a pain because on this same model boat, there is no storage up front to place anything out of the sun. My iPhone overheats up front. They should have either put satellite installed or surely there's a radio antenna out there that works? I'll look this weekend to see if mine is even connected, a coat hanger would do a better job!
