So not to get off topic, but now I'm just curious - what do you do for a living that has you flying all over the globe where there isn't phone service? Not being flippant, really want to know

No problem. I am a turbine engineer and I work all over the country and world on Steam and Gas Turbines. I am currently i Iraq.So not to get off topic, but now I'm just curious - what do you do for a living that has you flying all over the globe where there isn't phone service? 40 days a year, I need to get into that side of business? Trying to think what it would be, only thing I can think of is something to do with vibrations, but not really sure. We use specialized equipment to check for pulsations in the combustors of Gas Turbines, but don't think it is that either.A friend of mine knows a gentleman that has specialized testing equipment that runs like an "EKG" on the turbines while they are running. He works about 40 days a year and lives very well.
Yes, if you can come up with something different that helps the customer save time and money, then you can make some real good money! Good for him.It had something to do with mapping vibrations to see if there is any change from the last inspection. If i remember the story, he invented or modified the instrumentation he uses.
Small world, I know a lot of people in the industry. I have a good friend that is an Engineer, he is in Flint Michigan right now at a Genesee plant.I actually will be on a conference call tomorrow with a former GE guy and one of our plants to discuss upgrades on two combined cycle units. We're also going to review some turbine losses from 2014. Who said insurance is boring?????
I concur wholeheartedly!Go after your boat. And see if the dealer has a local lake for you to take a ride on.
Run it a couple of hours so you can test the engine at full throttle for performance. Nothing worse than getting a boat that's not set up properly--engine height or propeller.
