Transom well cover

I Still need to get the complete install done. This will have latches and a gas shock for easy access when it’s complete but gives an idea of the coverage over the well.

Your hard work turned out great. So glad you updated this thread with your finished product. Looks like you’re ready for 2022.
 
What is it made from and how is it made? Looks really nice, very professional. Love it!!

When are you taking order? Would LOVE to see some pictures of your brackets also when done - excellent job! Best I have seen.
 
The 3/4 starboard is plenty stiff to walk on or would the 1 inch be better?

Timdelta, after putting two people on the cover and thinking about your comment, we measured the deflection and had about 1/2 inch. I may add a U channel or I beam across the cover underneath to add some strength if needed after the fact. 1" may be better if you can source it.
 
I guess 1” would be better, but I would think to be very odd to have two people on it. Don’t have a boat yet so I have no idea.
 
Finally got to this project after taking a long time to find some starboard material and seadek adhesive foam for the top. Made the bracket out of 80-20 aluminum extrusions and connectors, so can easily be removed, and is fairly lightweight. Decided on 3/4" black starboad and a tan seadek foam. Would have chosen different colors for both, if they were available in a small quantity. This was all done with regular tools, no CNC for this one. Was able to use the existing transom bolt holes, so no drilling into the boat was needed.

This modification makes it so much safer and easier to walk on the back deck. Luckily, the 300 Mercury can fully raise without going into the transom well, so didn't need to make a relief cutout for that.

I suggest these are not mass produced as every transom opening is a different size, thus the reason they are not made standard!?!? FeelingMinnesota posting above provides a starting point to start sharing data points on this topic - I will measure mine next visit!
