I/O vs Outboard

There are some advantages of a duo prop in that there is no prop-walk that exist in single prop applications. But since you can direct thrust with either a duo prop I/O or an outboard, the actual difference is tiny. Outboards have an enormous advantage in serviceability and shallow water operation. Absolutely everything else is equal. There are zero reasons to buy an I/O unless you want to hide the motor.

In days gone by, I/O's had the leg up in 4stroke (not anymore), torque (not anymore), HP (not anymore) and cost (still a little). Outboards have come a long way in the last 25 years.

Outboards can be transferred to your next boat when "PADS" sets in.

Inboards stay with the old boat.

Probably get an outboard on our next boat........if we ever get a next boat.

Uh oh. There's another PADS comment from Daril...
