I too am using Rotella. 

I read on BobIsTheOilGuy.com that many fleet outboards (fishing offshore in Florida) have always used diesel oils or universal oils because it's so inexpensive and still does a great job in marine use.  These are the guys that repower @ 6000 hrs. usage.

The only thing is that any vehicle with a catalytic converter cannot use diesel oils.  That may leave out some of the newer Mercruiser units with catalytic converters.
