Due to cold and rainy weather, so much so that the lake was 40 feet over normal levels resulting in the marina being closed, we were finally able to take our new boat out for its maiden voyage today. The weather was perfect and the ride was great. Looking forward to finishing the engine break in so we can enjoy all she has to offer.
The first snowfall of the year at the cottage this past week as caught on one of our webcams. A long ways off before we’ll be snowmobiling, but getting close. Excited about that with boating season a good 7 months away.
Houghton Lake in Michigan had been freezing up already. However, we had a warm spell, followed by high winds. The ice broke up and got pushed ashore in some areas, almost like it were spring. Here are a couple of pictures of the it from about a mile south of our cottage on the west shore of the lake:
So it looks like our lake is warming up, and the ice is breaking up and getting pushed ashore in some areas. A somewhat annual event depending on conditions.
South side of our lake saw some decent pile up overnight. These pictures were posted by someone else up there on FB. Thought I‘d share here. I checked my cameras, and our place is just fine as wind, waves, and consequently ice tend to blow, flow and push away from our west shore location.
Speaking of which, here is the power. One of the marina’s on the lake has a small lighthouse. It is a very nice marker on that side of the lake given its bright color. It got knocked over with one of these ice build up piles. Before and after pictures below:
I'm just glad to see April come to a close. Everyone I talk to says they cannot recall a colder April. I'll take a side order of that global warming stuff please!
