Winter has arrived in Northern Michigan

Well, I am in Northern Illinois, and while I haven't seen a robin here yet, I did see one when we were on a run to Munster, Indiana to the Three Floyds Brewery. I am hoping this bone-chilling week will be the last of this awful cold.

Three Floyds sounds familiar.  Pretty sure I've had that before.  They have a good brown ale, right?  Struggling to remember...

We take our tailgate bus on a brewery tour once or twice a year.  Its tons of fun with a bus load.  I think the last one we went on I had 27 different beers.  They were all flight glasses (4-5 ounce taste testers).  Way too many to remember, but a great time none the less.

We are hoping to get over to New Glarus sometime, and Great Dane while we're near Madison, but that's a long way for a 20 year old school bus...

Every time we play poker we have a "beer theme".  We've been doing it so many years it's getting hard to come up with new ideas.  The last one was Valentines day.  I brought Dos Equis Amber.  Nothing unique, but it has two red Xs on the bottle (Xs are kisses, Valentines Day, get it?).  Anyway, it's a great way to try new beers without buying a whole 6 pack.  We had a "bomber" night, and there were around 15 different beers there.  I have a picture of them all...

Cool looking building GoldenRod, Good Luck to your son

Kaydano,  Hubby is the beer afficionado, I just go along for the ride-LOL.  We try to hit up a few breweries every now and then and it's a great way to kill a gray, winter's day in Chicago.  With the purchase of our Bennington, we are selling our previous boat that was garage kept, freeing up space for his homebrewing endeavors.

I have a friend that goes to Madison regularly for work.  He brings back growlers from Great Dane whenever we want them.  I'll pass that link along to him.  He will be THRILLED to have a new place to go!

Mraynie - I homebrew as well, although haven't for about a year.  I've made about 12 batches.  Takes a long time.  I did one full grain batch (which is how the big breweries brew, a lot different than the "kits" I use most of the time).  It took me all day, like 8 hours.  Made a mash ton out of an old cooler and used batch sparging (which basically allows you to use an old cooler).  I won't be doing a full grain batch again, but fun to have done it once.  Bottling is a pain too.  I'm too cheap for a CO2 and keg setup.  Don't do it enough...

Welfare check. Hopefully everyone didn't freeze yet. This sucks.

Hot water pipes froze last night so none downstairs and the cold works fine. Nothing broken, just frozen. Supposed to get colder tonight. We got an estimate to encapsulate the crawlspace last week and this has made up our minds.

If you have copper pipes  they probably split and just aren't leaking yet.  If they are PEX they can handle a soft freeze.

I know the hard way.

As a former adjuster I agree with the above. I'd be ready to kill the water once it thaws out. When we bought our lake house the inspection was done in the winter and a water spigot had froze. Come spring and we close, I turn on the water spigot and am filling my basement with water! Good times.

Jack, by my calculations the lakes won't be frozen over until the year 2040, there is a good chance we wont be around to see that

Where is Al Gore now....probably chasing man bear pig (southpark) since global warming isn't happening.

We have PEX. I took a look under there today and all is good so far. It's funny that it's the hot and not the cold.

Thawed out yet ? ( email is down )

It's funny you mentioned that, just the other day a cloud came up to me yelling derka derka and spit snow at me. Damn Ice-is
