I'm curious to see how we will break this cycle. Here's to hoping for high temps this summer to heat up all the waters.

Sure is! I went through a bunch of tests over the past few weeks trying to figure out what caused that episode on my last boat trip. MRI, stress tests, lots of imaging and so on, just to find out my heart is for the most part quite healthy and strong. The hypothesis is that my magnesium levels were just incredibly low. I had kind of a perfect storm of things driving it down (other medications, supplements, physical stress from knee replacement, etc.). The added inactivity from my knee replacement probably aggravated things even further and the stress from the boat trip must have just kicked it over the edge. Given that I spend 50+ nights per year in the backcountry, the doc was originally leaning toward ablation, but given the results they just gave me a bunch of meds and a portable ECG checker that connects to my phone. I take all that with me in the backcountry and if for some reason it happens again, I should be able to control it to get back to civilization. I carry an emergency satellite messenger, but I don't really want to pay for the helicopter ride that comes with that. I'm starting easy-ish on this first trip to be safe. The trailhead is 45+ miles down a dead end dirt road, but the actual hike is only about 20 miles long and our base camp will only be about 4 miles into it so I won't have to carry the heavy load for all 20. Oh, and I'm not going alone! Is the heart ready for that Nick?
I'm already half way there! One of my friends who comes with on a lot of these trips is an ER nurse. In fact, that's her in the photo above, reading her field guide to treat everything from a broken bone to a sting ray sting.Show some of the pics you show us to your doctor and I'm sure he'll go with you.
We were in a restaurant the day it got to 29 below ( without wind chill ) Here come parents and with their kids in soccer shorts .Then they wonder why they got sick .I think that photo would be just as true at 40 degrees. Maybe even 30 after a LONG winter. Funny picture though!
I've seen grade school kids around here stand out in the street for the bus in shorts, even when the temps are in the teens. I'm dead serious about that. I've heard other guys talk about seeing the same thing. Some parents.

I told my wife yesterday, "surely I can make it 3 or 4 more days until they say it will hit 30, instead of minus whatever every day". Unbelievable.Balls.
Plus everytime I look at accuweather the forecast gets worse and I want to kill myself. That site should just come down. It provides absolutely zero benefit to society.
