Winter has arrived in Northern Michigan

The way it's going probably not. I wish I were part bear so I can hibernate during all this.

Jack, what are you guys paying for propane in Michigan?!? Just topped off our sunken 500 gallon tank.......$2.69 a gallon.
 
In August I pre-bought 750 gallons @ $1.99 plus 4% tax .

It is at least $3.25 now .
 
When we had our house built in 1998 propane was $.96 a gallon..........now look.
 
We built ours in 2004 ,$1.25 then .

If I am not mistaken,isn't propane the most abundant of the fossil fuels ? Or used to be ?
 
Yeah, till it got cold and gave them a reason to jack the price ....... Remember the day before Hurricane Katrina ..... I paid $1.89/gallon for gas, the next morning it was $2.39 and we've never seen it near that since ...... Amazingly, over the next 3 years or so, Exxon/Mobil posted record profits ...... hmmmmmmmmm.............

I was in the retail gas business for 30 years( 4 Shell Stations).  In 1999, Shell came to us and changed our dealer agreements.  I went from making a living to surviving.  The reality was Shell had billions invested and was making 1.5% ROI.  Their statement to us was we could sell our assets and make 10%. The Oil companies make huge profits but they have unbelievable investments.  The biggest returns go to the state(28.4) and the federal (18.6 cents a gallon) for no investment.

20% of US propane is exported.  The midwest has a transportation problem right now.   Supply and demand should set pricing (The government is totally clueless what that means)  .   If I enter into a contract, for $x a gallon for fuel and it goes down $1 an gallon is the dealer gouging me.  If the price goes up like it has am I gouging the dealer.  If you had a dealer that could sell at Aug pricing which he has to make enough to restock at current pricing..  He would be out of fuel in a day.  What about all the people that need propane.  The dealers are limiting fuel deliveries but also the price keeps supplies in check.  The other reality is by the time the dealers restock their supplies at high priced propane the demand will drop, and the retail price will drop.  Are you willing to pay the higher price now that they have the product you don't need right now.       

Close to a rant but I lived the accusations for 30 years.
 
Again, the manufacturer wins .... No one else. The P&L's don't lie .... And Excon threw a fit when the gov't was going to stop the "exploration" funding...... Due to the EXCESSIVE profits. I live it everyday in the lumber industry too .... Wild fluctuations in the market, but again, it's the manufacturer with a pretty much fixed cost basis who is making the HUGE PROFITS.

Nice to see the execs pockets are getting lined by your misfortunes ..... I hope THEY can live with themselves .... Of course I'm sure their winter homes in the Bahamas are warm .....

It might, but I'll bet you it never gets back where it was. I hope I'm wrong but, I'd bet Andy's paycheck on it ...... :)

All markets take these opportunities to ratchet whenever possible, to someone else's advantage, not ours. It will settle higher for sure.

Yup, like I said pre Katrina $1.89 gallon unleaded, next day $2.39, and we have not seen under $2.89 since and averaging $3.50 now. Back then they said it was temporary because rigs and refineries were pulled off line till after the hurricane. I call bullsh** as it never returned to pre Katrina levels, and the following years record profits posted by the oil companies. Greedy ****** !!
