Curious about Motor Options

It probably is not too late to get the 300. I am trying to get my dealer to get authorization from bennington for me to replace my 300 with the new merc 400 verado. You can never have too much horsepower.

Cheers, Steve
I can't even imagine a 400!  Yes I can :)   I still remember years ago seeing Pontoon boats and saying I will never get one of those.  They sure have come along ways since I said that.  Not only stylish, but so much HP also.  I am curious on how the 300 is on fuel?  I know, if you can afford all that boat you shouldn't be worrying about fuel consumption, but I still do :)

I went back and filled it out, no 300 but the 250 on a 2375GCW drinks 21.5 gallons per hour at WOT

Thanks, I am about to check it out now.

They have a 2350QCL with a 300 and a 250.

The QCL is a much heavier boat, but it will give you an idea of the bump in fuel consumption.

26.2gph for 300

24.7gph for 250

This equates to 5.3% more fuel at WOT.  3.1% more at cruise.

I'd expect the same percentages with the verado.  Not that big of a deal.  I'd go with the 300 :)

You can always get Simon Motorsports to reprogram the ECU on a 300 hp Verado to put out incredible power.  And much better driveability, too.
Any idea on approx cost?  Would I have to send my ECU to them?

thanks

Yes, $700-800 and they get the ECU. It is serialized to the engine so you can't just swap one in. I chose not to risk it with a 5 year Platinum Merc warranty.

Simon motorsports is not too far from my house. In regards to the merc 300, the ecm upgrade will only give you 25-35 HP and it cost $850. The problem is that it voids your warranty. Hence, for me, the upside of only maybe 30HP is not worth the downside. As for the gas, I do have a gauge, but would have to review my log book to see the consumption.

Seems to be drinking some fuel when you pick up some speed :)   Probably won't be any worse than my Mercruiser 5.0 EFI I had in my ski boat.  I have no clue what I was getting in that.

You gotta pay to play  B)

Flooring it is 27gph no matter what. Being on a small lake, I spend so little time above 3000rpm it really doesn't matter that much.
