The good news...My brand new 2275GCW with 150HP and SPS has been delivered to the dealer.

Prepping the boat ( motor rigging, bottom prep and paint, etc) should take about two weeks.

The bad news...based on the Yamaha Performance Bulletin for my boat, I requested that the dealer install a Yamaha Reliance Series - SDS SS prop.

The dealer does not disagree but says that the Yamaha props are backordered everywhere and would result in a significant delay in delivery.

The dealer recommends a Powertech prop. "As good or better than Yamaha...made in America...propeller specialist company...etc "

I have no reason to doubt the dealer.

However...when shopping at boat shows for my Bennington, I heard similar statements from Bennington competitors "  As good or better than Bennington, etc "

Does anyone have feedback on Powertech?

Thank you.

No specific experience with Powertech but very interested to hear your numbers if you go that route. Their info as advertised on boattest.com looks promising and may be worth a try as an alternative if the Yamaha's backorder is still that bad.

With that being said, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone beat the performance of the Yamaha recommended prop on these boat/motor combinations - as of yet anyway. If someone has a Yamaha with another prop and numbers they feel are better (Powertech or otherwise) please post as the Yamaha backorder seems to still be affecting quite a few fellow Bennington owners.

And congrats on the new boat!

Seaduced,

I was/am in the same place you are. My dealer and I agreed that the Yamaha SS SDS prop would be the best for my boat. All of the performance bulletins I read said the same thing. And, just like you, the prop I wanted (15.75" x 15) is on back order. My dealer said he would make sure I got whatever prop made me happy.

My dealer put a Powertech SS prop (14.25" x 15) on for me, and that's what I have been using since I took delivery at the end of January. It is a nice prop, but the performance at top speed seems about 5-7 MPH slower than what others have reported and the performance bulletins indicate.

My dealer says they should be available in April, so I'm just waiting. I'll give my dealer the PowerTech one back once the Yamaha prop comes in. Not sure what your dealer is willing to do for you, but that's my story.

I'll post the stats on this prop once I get it.

Good luck

I still love my Enertia.

Good thing I have a prop lock on my reliance sds 15 pitch prop! Seems they are in high demand!

Andy, does that prop lock seem to work well? I was considering one last year but never got around to getting one.

Tell your dealer you'd go with the aftermarket prop if it gives you 38 mph and 6000 rpm's.  Otherwise, wait for the Reliance 15 pitch.

My dealer slipped a M14 Yamaha prop on my boat when I saw on the prep sheet a 15 pitch was spec'd by Bennington.  I was at 36 mph and 6300 rpm's--bouncing off the rev limiter.  I asked my dealer to order the 15 pitch Reliance, and it performs perfectly.

I installed a PowerTech 4 bladed SS prop on the I/O 2 years ago.  Been very happy with the prop.  If the dealer will let you swap back, I would put the Powertech on and get boating.

The prop is still on the boat so I guess it is working. Without the keyed socket I don't see how one would easily get it off. There is a outside collar that just spins if someone used a pipe wrench etc.

Everyone needs a backup prop!

Use the stock prop for now & order the yammi prop when available! Then you will have a spare, which you should have anyway!

You might also try the internet in case your dealer is just saying that because that is what he has in stock!

Me too. Thanks Todd!I
Anytime my friend.  Is it still shiny???? :p   :p :p  :p   :p   :p

Todd

I ran Powertech  props on the center consoles in both 3 blade and 4 blades.  They worked very well.  Lots of people swear by them but your mileage may vary.  Props are a "black magic" art that only with time and testing will you know what works with your individual setup.
