Major Issue with 2022 Stereo Discovered

Hi all,

I have said on here before that I was disappointed with my stereo from the factory on my 2022 24LXFBA with the kicker sub/amp package and 8” tower speakers. After further investigation I have figured out why and the answer is extremely disappointing.

If you have this package (1 step below the full Roswell offered in 2022), the tower speakers are not powered by the amp and the amp included does not have the power to run them. So, from the factory the tower speakers come wired directly into the head unit with the “internal amplifier” option turned on. What this means is that to have the tower speakers function at all, you have to choose not to use the amplifier that you paid ~1500 bucks for. If you turn them off. The system in the boat sounds awesome, but you lose the 8” cans you again paid ~1500 bucks for. I don’t know how this was overlooked at the factory and I am wondering if anyone could tell me if this is something that my dealer could possibly work out for me under warranty. It’s ridiculous to offer two stereo upgrades that conflict with each other if you purchase both.

Have you asked your dealer about it ?

With such a nice set up, and being under warranty with a newer boat, my first conversation would be with the dealership to ascertain if this is normal, misfired, what’s happening. I’d recommended starting there and see what they say.

Its not a dealer issue. Its just how they do it from the factory. From the base radio setup to the roswell they are not wired for performance by any means. There's a few things you can do to improve on it but it involves another amp and some more wiring. It comes down to speaker impedance and the amps they chose for these packages only being able to put out so much. Even the Roswell packages without the tower speakers are wired poorly and the amp puts out so little power. My 21 r23 had the base audio package. 6 speakers on a 4ch head unit. That combo will never sound good no matter what speakers you run. Way too underpowered.

For the stereo nerds - is there anything under the helm that will power an amp on a 2021-ish boat? Most of the toys I've needed to hook up after purchase had pre-wiring installed (toon lights, underwater lights, etc.), but I'm not seeing anything underneath that would connect to a powered sub (except for the remote wire).

Edit to add: I do have the powered sub wired into the swingback right now with the RCA and remote wire sitting loose from the helm to the swingback on the deck. I'll probably need to just drill out the wave shield to properly wire once the boat is out of the water.

There will not be anything heavy enough gauge to run an amp. It’s easy enough without pulling the side shields or wave guards to run under/ across the pontoons then back to the battery with a fish tape or fiberglass wire fish rods.

There is not to my knowledge Dave. When we had to have our main harness and all electrical replaced after our 2021 situation, I had them run another main line with the main harness to my helm for any future additions like adding and amp or sub or both or whatever since everything was taken apart anyway.
