My neighbor lost his pontoon boat during the last hurricane and since we rarely use our 2019 18' 188SLVDN boat with a Yamaha 40HP engine, I'm thinking of selling it to him. I paid close to $20,000 and have less than 50 hours on the boat. I don't have a trailer and was wondering about a fair price. I added a Bimini to the front and that's the only extra on the boat. My boat's in great condition. Any suggestions on a fair price?

I'm just looking to the members for a fair price. There is no intent to sell on this site. Please remove my question if it's in violation of the forum rules.

BTW - JD Powers came back with what seems to be a ridiculously high price compared to what I paid. I can't imagine that my boat has appreciated in value?

Depending on your location prices are still incredibly strong in the used market. My boat shows more than what I paid for it new in 2021 on the JDP site. Don't undersell the value - also check Facebook and Craigslist to get comparables. You'll probably be surprised how much it's worth.

FB Marketplace and Craigslist would also be my go to as they are going to really give you real market numbers in your general area or region. It’s somewhat like cars right now. The extremely high new prices are really bolstering used/pre-owned prices.

You might be right and I was very surprised. The low price for my boat is $10,000 more than I paid, almost 4 years ago.

What's it worth to him? To you?

To some extent it doesn't matter what the market says since you've selected your buyer already, I'm sure you can come up with something you're both comfortable with.

Part of the answer also is if you plan on buying another boat, or if you are done with it (for now). I sold a sports car years ago and while it was my dream car, it was time for it to go. KBB and all the other resources out there were good data points, but at the end of the day I had to get rid of it ASAP. I got what I got and that was fine - the bigger win was that it was out of my life before the warranty burned off and the endless stream of blank checks to the dealership would have begun.
