Two way handheld radios

At work, We've lost many of Engineers to Rockwell. Fun to listen to some of the stories from yesteryear, and makes you wonder what they are working on today. As for the Ham, looks like a fun option with a potential side benifit of safety. Brings me back to my younger days where a ton of us in HS had CB's and we would "skunk hunt". One vehicle would hide in town and then by asking questions others would drive around and try and find them. Hide and seek with cars so to speak. Many weekends to cops would play alond too, and in some cases ask us if we had seen such and such vehicle if they were having trouble locating.

I have to say we grew up  in an amazing time

CB Radios (lol)

Do you remember driving around with 102" Stainless Steel Whips attached to the bumper of your car

My friend had a convertible and let me tell you between the radio and the loud speaker it was a blast

Our radios in the house were amazing as we toured the world through the air waves

It was an amazing time to grow up

Music, lifestyle, revolution in the air and a sense of optimism everywhere

I couldn't find a pic from "The Day" But wanted to give those who didn't live the lifestyle an idea of what it was like !!

Pittsburg, what happened or was significant in 1974 that CB's have died out?

Convoy!

Right there is the true answer

The popularity of Convoy and the Truck Strike in the day made millions purchase CB's

Unfortunately they did so without Licensing and once the Licensing was dropped the flood gates opened

Anonymity caused insanity, foul language, illegal activities, the worst that society had to offer was all there

Then came the cell phones and internet and the nail in the coffin

People left the "Old School" for high tech and the world was changed forever

To do CB over HAM is a huge mistake

Nothing compares to HAM

Just my honest opinion

As anonymity slowly disappears on the internet , we will see the popularity of the net drop significantly.

With Face Book doing personality evaluations, tracking friends, family, likes , dislikes it is not as attractive as it once was.

At one time surfing the net had no consequence , today your surf activity is stored and could be accessed with little effort.

Emails and chat servers store everything u send and your ISP well they know you better than your wife or family member

Employees and schools are using the net to track your choices and those choices weigh heavily on your acceptance or employment

So with NSA and others taking anonymity away dont be shocked to see many leave the net and avoid its high cost.
