Hey All!!

Looking to update/ upgrade my 2013 Q25 w/ 300 Yami. I would like to get something that will move a little faster this time. Currently getting 41-42 mph on clean toons.

Looking at a few QX options, seems many of these have a 400 on them. There's one in particular we like the looks of that's not too far from home that's a 2022. Assuming this is not the V10 version? Can anyone chime in as to what the top speed may be out of this setup? Or what you could get out of it with a prop change? The guy that has it has only put 8 hrs on it so not even broke in yet and he can't speak to top speed.

I feel like our current Q has more low end than necessary and could sacrifice a bit of low end power for some more top end speed. It's a Yamaha 300 with 17-T / 15 1/2 saltwater series II prop.

Appreciate any input!

Welcome Jaron! You’re in somewhat rarified territory on this board, but a couple of our members have similar setups and will likely respond.

you can go to Yamaha and compare engines side by side that might be helpful. Above is an example of a few engines

My 2022 Verado 250 is a V8

Maybe just me. I would be very concerned with a 2022 400HP Mercury Verado that the original owner didn’t even finish the break-in period. With only 8 hours on that motor and it sitting unused for so long, that just seems like some potential and unnecessary headaches down the road - or sooner!

Are you able to at least have that motor THOROUGHLY inspected and ran by a certified Mercury tech and get their opinion on any potential issues with it have sat without the break-in even having been completed?

Outside of that, I’ll let those that know the anticipated performance better address your question. I have a 200HP Mercury Verado Pro (V6). Love it! So I am certianly a fan of the Mercury Verado motors outside of my concern with that 2022 you are looking at.
