Dock Lights an option?

Purchased a 2023 20 SVL last season and until this past weekend, never realized that dock lights are an optional feature? Seems that they should be standard, and not a Trim Level price concession, on a $35000 pontoon.

Well, as they sometimes say, “tell me something good.” You bought it this way, so hopefully there are other features that you did want and have been able to enjoy this past summer.

The other good news is you're probably pre-wired for dock lights. Check under the bow for connectors, and there's probably pre-wire/a blank switch on your helm.

Overall, we've enjoyed everything about the boat, marina, etc. Just came as a total surprise when pulling in after dark. First boat, not knowing what to ask or expect.

I do believe it's prewired and the switch is already installed and active. We'll see $ to add/swap looks like. A good waterproof flashlight may be the better choice.

Excellent - I'd pick up some Amazon lights and the proper connectors (they're available on Amazon) and make it go. the RGB Pontoon Lights writeup in my sig has details on the connectors. Alternatively if you want the nav + dock lights, you should be able to find them on Great Lakes Skipper. Good luck!

Being new to boating can certainly be an education. So much to it that you never realize. The SV is the value line, so not as many options, kinda just the basics. But a solid pontoon, and a great introduction to boating. Also, as is being mentioned above, there is a lot somewhat pre-wired and ready to go should you decide to do any add on lighting updates to it.

The nice thing with Bennington is they have an incredible range of boats, and price points, with significant options to personalize and customize. That said, it sure can be A LOT to take in and consider when on the front end of it all.

The docking lights on my R Series are absolutely underwhelming. For less than $100 and about an hour's work, you can add an LED light bar under the front deck that will outshine (pun intended!) any Bennington OEM light. I did it to both my current and former Benny's.

This thread started with the addition to my 2011 G series. I updated it when I added a light bar to my current R series.

awesome suggestion... thanks!

i just need to make sure we're never "that guy" driving around using dock lights like headlights... my family still think the boat is a car... (not boat of car... that's a song from They Might Be Giants, lol)

Amen to that! Personally, I think that every person that captains a boat be required to pass a boater safety course. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here in Michigan.

You don't even need common sense ( in Michigan) to rent a boat ,only requirement is a credit card.

great detailed write up Sunedog! I appreciate it. I will give it a try

Look at this way Docking lights are only for docking, period. Most people and boat sales persons don't know the law . The law states docking lights are illegal if turned on when not at the dock. That's why I didn't order them. Yes they look cool and I went round and round with my Malibu and Bennington dealer's and once they read the law they understood why I did not want them. Go enjoy your boat and hopefully the unknowing guy will not get cited.
