I’m wondering what the acid wash chemicals do to the trims that are other colors. I just cleaned mine with a cleaning compound and an orbital buffer. They looked terrible with the ugly water line running along each side. . This takes a little more work, and doesn’t look as clean, but I’m concerned about the black trim pieces above the logs.

The chemicals used in the acid wash discolor all trim and other color pieces. If you ever go that route, you need to make sure those things do not get any spray over chemicals or acid on them.

Check in with Michiman. His dealership acid washed another person’s boat, but got spray over onto his. Discolored a number of spots. It was a bad situation caused by carelessness on their part.

Yep, Aluminum Brightner Stain Remover & Restorer. One gallon is about 30.00 at NAPA.
I also got the spray bottle plus the gallon. It probably took me two refills of the spray bottle to get this look.

1 season in a marina really did a number on the old pontoon. I used to trailer it to every lake, but decided on a slip last year. Now it's rub rails are scuffed, logs are scraped, someone hit the motor at some point and gouged the case, but worst I think is the horrible algae stained toons. I got about to cleaning them today and wanted to share with everyone my results and how super simple they were to achieve. I used a product from NAPA called Mac's Aluminum Brightener. I liberaly sprayed it on the log a section at a time, let it soak and turn white, gave it a quick scrub, and hosed it off. It just melted the algae away. Very wicked stuff though so be careful not to get it on anything other than bare aluminum. Happy Boating!
looks great !! did it do any damage to the trailer at all ?

darn, looks like this product is in the US only. Us Canadians are out of luck

does it look " natural " like silver alum. or it just the lighting in the pictures ? looks unnatural if that makes sense ?

give it a few days. the acid takes the oxidized layer off. It reappears a few days after cleaning and turns the toons a touch more silver than white. I've been using the Napa MAC Aluminum brightener a few time a year for 7 years now.
Docked in a dirty river and my top speed drops for 38 Mph to 27 once the algae has grabbed hold.
